Pure Paws Haven is a private, nonprofit organization that relies on individual donations, grants, and our own fundraising to operate. Adoption fees help offset some of the costs associated with providing for the cats and kittens in our care—this includes housing, food/litter, medical care, enrichment, behavior modification, and more.
To better support our communities, we offer discounts to military & seniors, disability & for emotional support.
Our Adoption Fees.  We have a standard adoption fee for each puppy in our Owner Placement program is $350, (Free dog food pack and Toys inclusive to help the adopted puppy transition to its new home). The adoption fee helps cover some of the costs associated with providing for the puppy in our foster care, this includes housing, feeding, medical care, spaying/neutering and more.
Why? By Paying an adoption fee, the new adopter shows Commitment & Seriousness: It ensures the adopter is serious about adding a pet to their life and It demonstrates an understanding that pet ownership comes with financial obligations. These fees usually go directly toward the medical care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and boarding for the cats, and helps the organization to continue helping cats in need.
Adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter; microchip; distemper vaccination(s); flea/parasite treatment; rabies vaccine.

A common question among pet adopters is why are put adoption fees? Shouldn’t adopting a pet be free, or at least super cheap?

When you purchase a purebred dog from a breeder you may be paying anywhere from $1000 or more but often that’s all your getting for that cost is the pet and maybe it’s first vaccinations. When you adopt a pet from a shelter or cat foster, your adoption fees are going to pay towards the cost of care your adopted cat has received while at their premises. Here is a break down of what a we have already put into your pet before you even adopt.

Spay & Neuter
The average cost for veterinary care varies greatly depending on your geographical location (city vs. country), the size of the size and age of the animal requiring care, as well as their overall picture of health and how it influences the complexity of treatments. That said, the average spay or neuter can range from $50-$175 for an animal shelter. However, this doesn’t include the cost of pain relief medication that the shelter will also be responsible, which is another $10-$30 dollars. If you were to get your adopted cat or dog spayed or neutered on your own it could cost you anywhere from $200-$500 plus depending on said variables.

Shots/Vaccines
The cost of intake vaccinations and Rabies vaccines can cost approximately $100 for the animal shelter, if not more. In Dogs, the suggested intake vaccines are If your adopted animal has been in the foster for a few months they’ve most likely received a monthly booster to keep them safe from shelter related illness. If you were to pay for these vaccinations yourself you could be paying anywhere from $100 to $200.

Microchips
All our dogs are microchipped. Although a lot of pet owners insist that their dogs will never get lost, we see it happen all the time – whether it be as a result of a natural disaster, an unfortunate accident, or the meter reader leaving the gate open. The cost for a shelter to microchip their animals is approximately $80.

Food, Care, Shelter & Comfort . The cost to feed a dog for a month in a foster or shelter can range greatly based on the needs of the animals in the shelter, but a general ballpark estimate is round $50-$80. This does not include special diets for pets that need food for specific digestive needs. Then there are toys, treats, bedding, kitty litter and other necessities that the shelter provides.

Extras
We provide you with a bag of food to go home with so you can slowly adjust your new pet to they brand you’ve chose to feed them. Collars, ID tags, litter box or tray and some toys.

Remember most non-profit organizations do not receive any kind of government funding. Adoption fees make caring for the dogs possible. But the regular day-to-day operations like building utilities (gas, water, electricity, telephone) laundry and cleaning supplies, trash pick-up, the cost for fostering agents, veterinary staff, etc., gets paid for by the foster’s ability to fundraise and acquire donations rather than through adoption fees for the animals.
